I completed this top-down tank game in Unreal Engine, using a pre-existing framework as the foundation. The framework provided essential systems, including tank movement, camera control, and basic combat mechanics, which allowed me to focus on tailoring and expanding the gameplay experience. My first priority was understanding how the framework operated, so I could build upon it effectively without disrupting its core functionality. This preparation proved invaluable as I customised various aspects of the game.

One of my key contributions was enhancing the player experience through fine-tuning the tank’s movement and combat mechanics. Using Unreal Engine’s blueprint system, I adjusted parameters to ensure smooth controls and a satisfying feel to the tank’s movement. On the combat side, I expanded the provided shooting mechanics, incorporating features like ammunition limits and impactful visual effects such as muzzle flashes and explosions. These changes added depth and excitement to the gameplay while retaining the integrity of the original framework.

Additionally, I worked on creating enemy variants by utilising the pre-existing AI blueprint in the framework. Rather than developing new AI systems, I leveraged the blueprint to design distinct enemy behaviours and appearances, adding variety and challenge to the game. I also refined the user interface, incorporating elements like health bars and ammunition displays to enhance player feedback. Reflecting on the project, I am proud of how I adapted the framework to create a polished and enjoyable game while improving my skills in blueprint scripting and game design.
